Some Sunday Selections

I normally (er… used to normally?) hook up links to my blog during my www. Wednesday feature, but since I’m SO far behind, I figured I’d roll ’em all out here on this lazy Sunday. Or, if you’re like me, you’ve already been up for three hours listening to the Arctic Monkeys and planning blog entries.

+ I LOVE short stories. There is something about them that is so special; here’s a list compiled by Refinery29 of 30 you need to read… bookmarked and ready to go over here!

+ My friend S posted or sent this McSweeney’s article to me forever ago, and it just knocked me off my feet. It’s a perfect picture of our mental health care system right now, as written by a lady writer whose been through it all. She’s also witty as hell, so read it if you like charming-as-hell writing.

+ Not that I know anyone like this (cough… me), but I’ll just leave this here for anyone who might understand the 11 struggles of being a highly sexual being.

+ Through pure chance, I am apparently a combination of two of my lady heroes’ body-type wise: KimK (hourglass) and Angelina (carrot), and I could not be happier. I also adore how many body types they address in this article. #Refinery29JunkieForLife

+ I will never tire of this highly paid teachers salary math problem floating around on the Internet. Spoiler alert: teachers are so, so, SO underpaid.

+ BLESS THIS POST: 15 things you don’t owe ANYONE.

+ Just sayin’, this dude ain’t a marriage counselor for nothing. He understands why women (or men) leave and/or cheat on the ones they love: lack of attention/gratitude/listening.

+ Because I miss it every day, here’s a compilation of 26 Office quotes that will make you laugh. There are thousands more if you just WATCH THE SHOW!

+ I was appalled to find that the Neutrogena products I’d been using for YEARS were exposed as being horrible for you/NOT WORKING this year, especially since I’m (for the most part) vigilant about sun exposure. EWG has an extensive list of sunscreens that actual work, while also being good for your body.

+ God, I hope this scientifically-proven method of decreasing procrastination works on my concrete-stubborn procrastination tendencies.

+ This beauty article makes me feel so validated about my brow tendencies. Here’s how to keep your brows on FLEEK… and get ’em there if you don’t feel satisfied yet 🙂

+ Please enjoy this puppy photo to brighten your day, or you know, make it brighter.

Hopefully I’ve caught up enough to jump back into the www. Wednesday pattern later this week! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, lovies ❤

www. Wednesday

It’s back, it’s back! Link party below:

+ Can I get an amen on this EliteDaily article about how you assholes keep calling us crazy, but really, you’re just dicks? K, thx.

+ You have to be deaf if you don’t like Ariana Grande. Proof in the Whitney Houston-cover pudding found HERE.

+ Because I’ve been sick (read: FATIGUED!) for so long, here’s a Buzzfeed article of all my eternally exhausted faces……. as told through DOG PHOTOS!

+ This perfectly describes how people who don’t vaccinate themselves or children sound to me… brava, Girl Pants!

+ i-D magazine compiled a perf vid of slang terms you need to know. You may think you’re above slang, but all us teachers will tell you: YA NEED. TA KNOW!

+ Since I’m in a slump right now, I figured we could all use this kid-approved list of 22 acts of kindness we can all easily pull off.

+ Also, if you’re feeling slump-ish, let’s all read Amazon’s 100 must-read books to escape, eh?

+ Realizing late in life I’m probably in this slump because I fall under 95% of these 11 traits of an Indigo child

+ A simple, yet comprehensive, list of traits all of us should have in a partner!

+ Overall, I think Iggy Azaela is problematic, but I think it she would focus more of her time acting like this–open and honest about plastic surgery aka WHY DON’T ALL CELEBS DO THIS?!–she could gain some respect and maybe start forging her own (non-problematic) path.

Happy birthday to my little sis, C! Her birthday is actually tomorrow AND today because you know, TIME DIFFERENCES – ooohh, time travel!!! I love you from the bottom of the ocean, all the way to the moon and back. Tomorrow, we will be doing a special blog entry where both of us write a letter to something from our childhood…

+ First things first: we need to talk about Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. (<< Trigger warning on this article.) This is a terrifying tragedy that could mean a lot of implications for the global community. I think the best thing for all of us in the blogging community to do is 1) to acknowledge this moment. We have a social responsibility since we have a public platform. 2) to show how we support one another and those involved, no matter our heritage or political party; we can set the mark for others by sticking together, which is just the opposite of what many malevolent people in this world want us to do. We must prove better. My heart goes out to those lost and those mourning for them.

+ If anyone has heavy boots after that link, please enjoy these Disney princesses reimagined as sloths in GIF form.

+ If anyone wants to help MH17 families, for now, Malaysia Airlines is providing monetary assistance, though I am sure other ways to lend a hand will emerge very shortly.

+ If anyone needs something sunny and happy now, please know that this beautiful (and largest of them all) swimming pool exists in Chile.

+ If anyone needs a laugh, to remember that there IS good in this world, watch the video below:

www. Wednesday

This particular www. Wednesday is full of clickbait, but I don’t care! It’s THE CREAM OF THE CROP of clickbait. Read it, breathe it, live it.

+ I thank my lucky stars that the men I had in my life growing up were feminists, but the world could use more of them. If you’re interested in making the world a more feminist place, check out this list from xoJane of 35 practical steps men can take to support feminism.

+ www. Wednesday would simply not be the same without at least ONE Game of Thrones-related link: 19 words that have a totally different meaning on GoT.

+ As an English teacher (and general lover of the written word), I can’t resist a good list o’ things you probably never knew about the English language. Promise I’m not trying to bamboozle ya!

+ Bees are literally the coolest (and cutest) creatures on the planet, yet we treat them like crap. They also, you know, KEEP US ALIVE! Here’s a really cool way to give back to them by creating your very own bee hydrator.

+ If you want to see the amazing side of Pakistan we never get to see thanks to skewed media coverage, please check out this beautiful list of photographs that finally illustrate there is more to their culture than war.

+ If you are antisocial (cough… ME! …cough) than you will identify with and adore this list of 30 things only AS people understand.

+ Check out my friend Liz’s #BeFearless project if you haven’t already. She explains everything on this page dedicated to it on her blog, not to mention you can find MY story there AND submit your very own, even if you don’t have a blog!

Now stare at this puppy’s sweet face and have an amazing Wednesday. I know I will, even if I’m sick, because it means I get to read like it’s my job!

www. Wednesday

+ Reading this time management blog entry made me have a SERIOUS panic attack. After I breathed into my paper bag and chugged a soda, I realized that if I could even utilize a third of it, I would be a crazy efficient human being, so here goes nothing!

+ The Washington Post has some brilliant scientists writing about how we could all stopped getting raped and/or beaten if we just got married already! OF COURSE!!!! (vom.)

+ A list of 10 things you should make yourself instead of buy by the folks at Apartment Therapy. I’ve only done one out of nine so far this year — better get ta’ steppin…

+ With a random numbered list like this, you know only BuzzFeed can be involved: 33 Jokes Only Game of Thrones Fans Will Understand.

+ I normally scoff at “love advice” posts, but this Distractify list of habits actual couples keep up is genuine and something ALL of us can do with our partners!

+ Anyone else one of those people who adores being scared? Just me? This probably says something about my psyche, but in the meantime, why don’t you check out this post of the world’s SCARIEST places! 😀

+ Just bought a huge bag of fresh asparagus to try my hand at making these delish looking asparagus fries, minus the aioli because it’s really just mayonnaise, and mayonnaise is the devil.

+ With my first How-To coming up later this week dealing with clothing (WINK, WINK; NUDGE, NUDGE), I feel it only appropriate to link up to Into Mind’s colour theory post. It’s incredibly helpful when you’re feeling like you don’t have any good outfits or clothing in general, as well as for when you’re buying and need help making the new item useful.

Good night and good luck; I leave you in the hands of the incomparable BatDad.

+ Oh, Buzzfeed. What would we do without you to diagnose ourselves with so many different personality traits? The newest one to make me shake my head wildly in agreement: 25 Signs You’re Not Really a Baby Person.

+ You probably shouldn’t marry someone you can’t trust to not blab about your personal life on social media, but I do understand that people get a little cray during break-ups, so I’m not too shocked that couples are now signing social media pre-nups. It’s definitely digital food for thought.

+ Adding this to my “New Things to Try Next Week” list: Bulletproof Coffee. I like my coffee strong and crack-like, so this seems right up my alley. Apologies to my boyfriend in advance who already can’t drink my “mud water.”

+ It should horrify all of us that in NO STATE IN AMERICA can a minimum wage worker afford a two-bedroom apartment without working at LEAST 25 hours over the standard 40 hour work week.

+ Inspiring quotes from the funny ladies everyone loves… and if you don’t love ’em, that’s okay. We have you on a list and will be around to “see you” shortly.

+ Some amazing sorceress came up with THE BEST cupcake idea ever: coffee and donut. Get the recipe (and drool over the pictures) here.

+ As you gear up to finish A Song of Ice and Fire series this summer (no? just me?), you might want to check out the Spritz app that actually helps improve your reading speed.

Have an amazing Wednesday and rest of the week!

+ If you had a bad day or week, I promise that looking at these heartwarming photos of dogs leaving the shelter with their new owners will make you smile from ear to ear!

+ As I got older and the hangovers got worse, I could actually feel that something deeper and more ominous was going on inside my body than just the side effects of alcohol; here’s what really goes on in your bloodstream after a night of binge drinking. Be careful with your libations, y’all.

+ For some reason, Brad Pitt tossing Matthew McConaughey a beer in NAWLINS is the greatest thing I’ve seen in, like, years.

+ Finally! A study proving my mother and I right about how folks tend to fall for people who are similar looking to you, right down to our very DNA. What would the Internet do without you, IFLS?!

+ How AMAZING is the idea behind this bracelet called myLokai? We should all be required to wear them to keep us both humbled and motivated!

+ Wow. YOU STAY CLASSY, RAYJ!

+ If you’re like the rest of us cross-continental traveling Americans, you’ve felt the pangs of not having a greasy fix from a regional fast food restaurant you fell in love with on the road. I just keep saying to myself “For every Taco Cabana moment I miss in my life, at least I can get a Cookout milkshake whenever the SHIT I WANT TO!!!!”

www. Wednesday

I went into the archives for some of these, and OH BABY, did it pay off! Enjoy these for now, ’cause I have some good ones on the deck for the next coupl’a weeks!

+ The most accurate post about baby names that make us want to punch (or at least vigorously shake) someone.

+ I have been obsessed with finding the perfect oil-cleaning regimen for my face and now own approximately 5 different types for different occasions. HERE ARE MORE TO ADD TO MY (AND YOUR) COLLECTION!

+ If you think you know what teachers do, you’re wrong. {Just like I don’t know what a bookkeeper does all day. Sit around, upset that they don’t actually get to be a keeper of a large library of delightful books?!? I HAVE NO IDEA!}

+ It’s no secret: if you’re from the South (specifically NC), and you don’t like David Sedaris, you’re not a true Southerner. Read this moving piece he wrote about his deceased sister. He’ll still find a way to make you laugh.

+ Mental health sufferers! Remember all those times someone said they didn’t believe you or they didn’t understand? GET THEM TO PLAY THIS GAME, aptly called “Depression Quest.” It’s an interactive video game that will make the naysayers see the light.

+ I have this list of 100 Reasons to Start Loving Yourself Right Now in my “Life” binder in my Inspiration Collection (something I’ll talk about at length here on the blog soon). It really is a good list of reminders, and it’s nice to see a lot of stuff on it that doesn’t normally show up on your typical “do this to get that” list o’ things.

+ Absolutely one of my favorite posts of all time: 27 Definitions to Words You Likely Never Knew Existed.

+ If you didn’t already know – ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD! – about my raging addiction to Welcome to Night Vale, please read this step-by-step process on how I got there. And now, the weather…
